• Información encontrada: John Logan Tanner, III, age 79 and life-long resident of Dallas, TX passed away of natural causes on February 17, 2009 at Walnut Place. John precedes Margelle, his wife of 53 years, in Heaven where he will joyfully reunite with his mother Laura, father John L., II, sister Nancy and other beloved relatives who await his arrival with open arms and loving hearts. John is also survived by sons Frank of Dallas and Bill of Greenwich, CT. John especially adored his grandchildren Kristen, Brooke and Holden and their mother Jackie, wife of Bill. In life, John was guided by strong principals, honesty and integrity, and he had a profound influence on those who had the privilege of knowing him. Johns sense of fairness and the courteous and respectful treatment of others will extend his legacy long after his passing. A graduate of SMU with B.S. and M.S. degrees in Civil Engineering, John founded Ellisor and Tanner with college classmate Elmer Ellisor and the structural engineering firm became one of the most successful in the Southwest boasting significant engineering projects that included the First International Building (now the Renaissance Tower) in downtown Dallas. John was always generous in recognizing the contribution of his employees to the firms achievements and many have gone on to have successful careers in their own right. Once a Boy Scout himself, John was deeply involved in his sons Scouting activities and travelled with Troop 579 to the 1973 National Scout Jamboree in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. John was also an avid outdoorsman and regaled his sons with tales of hunting with his father as a young man. In later years, he enjoyed many memorable hunting and fishing experiences with his sons and with good friends George Cox and Jim Archer. John was a self-taught, scratch golfer with a best-round score of 66 at the old Glen Lakes Country Club. John was always particularly proud of his family long-standing relationship with Northway Christian Church in Dallas dating back to his fathers efforts in the churchs early years in the 1950s. Most recently, John often attended church service with son Frank and listened as Marge sang in the choir. Please celebrate the life and passing of a man whose character is far too rare by urging everyone to try a little bit harder and become a little bit better. Memorial service at 12:30 PM Friday February 20, 2009 at Northway Christian Church.
